What are the different types of Carpet loom?

Handmade rug, carpet, and durries are used for decorating a home and providing a perfect look to a home décor. Each carpet has a different price range according to their weaving technique. There are different types of looms which is used to make different types of handmade area rugs and durries. Making rugs is an art of old as a time. Without knowing about how a handloom is used to make beautiful unique design carpet you cannot guess about the price range. It is difficult to describe a handloom, but I am sure most people have seen one or some of its concepts. It is fundamental - if you can imagine two poles connected with each other. As simple we can say that “A loom is a fundamental of wooden horizontal and vertical beam which is operated by hand. Weavers make a foundation of cotton which is called warp horizontally on a loom. It is not compulsory that the warp should in cotton it can be according to the customer requirement. It may be in silk, wool, jute or cotton.

There are mainly three types of handlooms

Hand-tufted Rug Loom:

It looks like similar as hand-knotted loom but the difference is in weaving technique. The hand-tufted technique provides endless possibilities in carpet design. All types of textures such as high knots and low knots, cut- piles etc. A 3-dimensional effect can also be achieved because carving is done entirely by hand. In this technique first, a graphic designer makes a CAD according to the design and color combination of carpet. They also provide Pantone color numbers. Weavers dyed yarn according to the Pantone color and then start weaving. They stitched a cotton cloth as a primary foundation and draw a design on it. After that, they use a gun machine for inserting the yarn in the frame according to the design. Once it is completed they released carpet from loom and do finishing. They trimmed the piles for making it equal and that’s why it is called cut-pile carpet also. Weavers use secondary cotton cloth or any hard material for adding strength to the carpet. In hand-tufted carpet, there are no fringes. It is a cheaper woolen rug which you can also buy from an online carpet store.

Hand-knotted Rug Loom:

In hand-knotted technique loom, it is the combination of the vertical and horizontal beam. First weavers make a cotton foundation on it and after that start weaving process. They use knots and piles for creating attractive and one of a kind design. In hand-knotted rug, you can find a modern rug and traditional rug as well. It is also called the interweaving process. It is the highly durable handmade carpet which you can use from one generation to another generation.

Flat Loom:

Flat Loom is used to make cotton and woolen dhurries. In these type of dhurries, there is no pile and knots. It is single weft dhurrie which is very thin and strong. It is also called flat-woven dhurrie. This type of loom in made vertically. Dhurrie is the cheapest dhurrie or rug which is available in various color combinations.
