What are The Best Ways to Polish a Floor?

The marble floor brings natural beauty to homes, offices, hotels, malls and other hospitality providing services. Marble is a viable option for table tops, fireplace mantles and flooring. To maintain and increase the brightness of your marble floor, you will require polishing it at regular intervals. You should polish your marble floor at least once in a year.

The marble surfaces require extra care and attention than the other floors because they get damaged easily, retain dirt and stains because of their porous nature.  The polishing of the marble floor will make it look new again.

Steps for the Polishing of a Marble Floor

The steps for the polishing of a marble floor are as follows:

Step 1:  The first step will be to prepare your marble floor for polishing. The preparation includes gathering your supplies. The supplies include mild detergent, poultice for removing the stains, soft cloths 3-4 in number, marble sealant, polishing compound, and low-speed polisher. If you will hire marble polishing services in Gurgaon, then the company will take care of these items.  And if not then you have to purchase a kit by yourself. For cultured marble floors, you need to make sure that you have selected an ideal product for this kind of Marble floor. You can use a soft rag in place of a polisher, but that will make the polishing a bit tedious for you.

Step 2: If there are stains on the marble floor, then remove them with the help of a poultice. But there should be a gap of 24 hours before you proceed to another step. To get rid of the water rings, you can make use of the etching remover polishing compound.

Step 3: The next step of the marble polishing will start with the tapping of the area around the marble. The tapping is important to prevent damage to the chrome or wooden furniture surrounding the marble floor. The wooden furniture or chrome can get damaged by the chemicals you may make use of in polishing the floor.  You can seal the floor with the painter's tape.

Step 4: After sealing the floor with the painter's tape, now clean your marble floor with a soft rag and a mild detergent. Before applying the chemical to the marble floor you can test a small area to know the power of it. If the stains are not rigid and are easily removed by the simple detergent then there is no need to use other chemicals.  You can also apply a poultice to remove stains, but that is optional and should be applied only in the case of rigid stains which are not cleared by a mild detergent. You can buy poultice from the market or prepare it at home by the use of hydrogen peroxide into flour. When you will apply it on the stains, cover the surface with plastic and wait for 24 hours. If the stains are too rigid, then they may take more time to disappear. You can remove the plastic after one or two days and rinse the poultice with the water and then wipe it away with the cloth.  And then allow the floor to dry. You will need to repeat the same process if the stains persist. The marble polishing services have the experience of this job, so they can better tell you the adequate quantity of the chemical you should use.

Step 5: After the successful removal of stains, now you can make use of polishing compounds. A small amount of polishing compound will be sufficient to clean the floor. You can measure it in a container. But make sure that you will not apply the compound to the entire floor. The amount of polish you need will depend on the type of polish and the size of the marble floor. You can start with a little amount and add as more as needed. You can either choose a soft cloth or a low-speed polisher to apply the polish. But it takes time when you use a soft cloth and the job of polishing becomes hectic than the speed polisher.  Why low-speed polisher is used lies in the fact that the pressure of the machine could affect your results. Always do polishing in segments, never attempt to do it all at once. Remove the excess polish and the other residue with the help of a dry cloth. Then dry the floor completely. After 24 hours of polishing, apply sealant. The cultured marble may not require sealing because it is stronger than the other floors. Don’t allow the sealant to dry fully and wipe out the residue with the help of a cloth. Wait for your marble to dry and do not use the floor before the seal sets.
