What Type of Vacuum Is Best for Cleaning Your Rug?

Most people would agree that decorative rugs are one of the most beautiful ornaments that you can use to make any room in the house look elegant and stylish. They are simply unique, colorful and pleasant on the eye. However, all good things come with a price and keeping these precious rugs clean requires a little bit of knowledge and understanding of what type of vacuum is best for cleaning it.

Difference between Carpet and Rugs

Now, before we go into details about what type of vacuum is best for a particular rug, it is important to know the difference between carpet and rugs. Some people may doubt the need to distinguish between the two because they believe that they are one and the same. But in reality, they are not and knowing their differences will definitely help you in determining which vacuum cleaner is best to use.

Carpets are usually larger than 6 and ½ feet (2 meters) and the materials used are generally thicker than the materials used in rugs. On the other hand, rugs are typically smaller than 2 meters and the materials used are thinner, but the thinner materials used allows the rug to have more intricate designs and patterns.

Now that we know their different characteristics, we can say that vacuums that use brush rolls are good on carpets because of its thick materials and size. While expensive rugs need more care when cleaning because of their thinner materials and elaborate patterns.

Stick Vacuum Cleaner

Stick vacuums have thin stick-like designs that look a lot like a broom. They are lightweight and normally use a rotating brush system with light suction features to clean. These vacuums are ideal for cleaning rugs that are located under the dining table or other hard to reach places. Though, they are not advisable to use for heavy cleaning due to their limited suction power.

Upright Vacuum Cleaner

This type of vacuum cleaners is considered the heavyweight of its class. Upright vacuum cleaners have powerful suction motors that can deeply clean your rugs and carpets. This type of vacuum is best for cleaning large area rugs and carpets because it thoroughly cleans and it can suck out the dirt from your carpet and rugs faster than the other types of vacuum. On the other hand, they are difficult to navigate and may be difficult to use on narrow areas.
